Getting started with Tindahan.

From an empty WordPress site to a shop with a working product assistant, in seven short steps. No coding, and nothing here needs a developer.

Before you start

You need a WordPress site you can log into, and about ten minutes. WooCommerce is needed for the shop parts, and the Pro add-on is optional: the free theme runs a complete shop on its own.

Every step below names the exact menu you click. If your WordPress is in another language, the menu names are translated, so look for the matching item.

Step 1: Install the free theme

You can install it straight from your own dashboard, which is the fastest way.

  1. In the left menu, go to Appearance, then Themes.
  2. Click Add New Theme, then search for Tindahan.
  3. Click Install, then Activate.

If you downloaded the theme as a zip file instead, use Appearance, then Themes, then Add New Theme, then Upload Theme, then Choose File, then Install Now, then Activate. Only ever install a theme zip you got from WordPress.org or from us.

Step 2: Install WooCommerce

Tindahan is WooCommerce ready but does not include it, so install it once.

  1. Go to Plugins, then Add New Plugin.
  2. Search for WooCommerce, then click Install Now, then Activate.
  3. Run the WooCommerce setup wizard when it appears. It creates the Shop, Cart, Checkout and My Account pages for you.

Run that wizard only once. If you skip it, your shop pages will not exist and the menu will have nothing to point at.

Step 3: Set up your pages and menus

  1. Go to Pages, then Add New Page, and create the pages you want: Home, Shop, About, Contact and a returns or FAQ page. Keep the titles short.
  2. Go to Settings, then Reading, and set your home page to the page you just made, or leave it on your latest posts if you write a blog.
  3. Go to Appearance, then Menus, create a menu, add your pages, then set its display location to Primary menu. Make a second menu for the Footer menu location.
  4. Save the menu.

If the menu does not appear on the site, the usual cause is a menu that was built but never assigned to a location. Check the Display location box at the bottom of the menu screen.

Step 4: Make it yours

  1. Go to Appearance, then Customize, then Site Identity, and set your logo and site title.
  2. Still in the Customizer, open Shop options. There you can set the announcement bar text, the footer credit, and the accent colour.
  3. Click Publish to save your changes.

Keep the accent colour dark enough to read white text on it. That is the only rule the design really asks of you.

Step 5: Install Tindahan Pro

This step is only for the paid add-on. Skip it if you are using the free theme alone.

  1. Download the plugin zip from the link in your receipt email, or from your account on the store where you bought it.
  2. Go to Plugins, then Add New Plugin, then Upload Plugin, then Choose File, then Install Now, then Activate.
  3. Open the new Tindahan menu in your dashboard. Paste your licence key and click Activate.

That screen then shows your status, how many sites the key covers, and when it renews or expires. Keep the key somewhere safe, because you need it if you move the site to a new address.

Step 6: Switch on the shop assistant

Open the Tindahan menu, then Assistant. The mode setting is the one that matters most.

  1. Choose Built-in assistant for answers that come from your own shop data, with no API cost and no key to buy. This is the right choice for most shops, and you can change it later.
  2. Fill in the greeting line, your returns answer, your shipping answer and a contact link. The assistant only repeats what you type here. Leave one empty and it will say it has no policy on file rather than invent one, which is the honest behaviour but a poor first impression.
  3. Set the position and the scope. Scope decides where the launcher appears: every page, or the front page only.
  4. Set questions per hour per visitor to a sensible number, so one visitor cannot use the whole day. Set it to 0 only if you really want no cap.
  5. Click Save.

If you would rather let a large language model answer the questions your shop data cannot, choose Your own AI key instead and follow the AI key guide. The key is billed to you by the provider, never by us.

You can also place the assistant inside a page with the shortcode [tindahan_assistant]. On a product page it answers about that product.

Step 7: Test your shop

  1. Add one product with a price and a stock level, then open the product page on your phone.
  2. Ask the assistant a question you know the answer to, and check that the answer matches your shop data.
  3. Put a test order through the checkout using your payment provider's test mode, then delete the test order.
  4. Turn off any test mode before you open the shop.

Payments are between you and your payment provider. Tindahan never touches card details and never holds your money.

If something goes wrong

  • No menu on the site: assign the menu to a display location in Appearance, then Menus.
  • No Shop page: run the WooCommerce setup wizard, or create the pages by hand and point WooCommerce at them in WooCommerce, then Settings, then Advanced.
  • Assistant missing: check that your licence is active, that the mode is not left on a mode you have not configured, and that scope is not set to the front page while you are testing on a product page.
  • Product links look broken, for example shop/?p=123: go to Settings, then Permalinks, and choose Post name.
  • Theme install fails with a size error: upload the zip from WordPress.org rather than a zip you edited yourself.
